HISTORY: AFRICAN HEROES - PATRICE LUMUMBA.

Patrice Lumumba, first democratically elected leader of the Congo. He would be deposed and assassinated in a western backed coup orchestrated by the CIA and Belgian authorities.
As founder and leader of the mainstream Mouvement National Congolese (MNC) party, Lumumba played an important role in campaigning for independence from Belgium .

Shortly after Congolese independence in 1960, a mutiny broke out in the army, marking the
beginning of the Congo Crisis.Lumumba attempted to solicit support from the Soviet Union against Katongan secessionists . This led to growing differences with President Joseph Kasa-Vubu and chief-of-staff Joseph- Désiré Mobutu as well as to foreign opposition from the United States and Belgium . Lumumba was subsequently imprisoned by state authorities under Mobutu and executed by firing squad under the command of Katangan authorities. The United Nations, which he had asked to come to the Congo, did not intervene to save him.
Belgium, the United Kingdom, and the United States have all been accused of involvement in Lumumba's death, the latter as part of Cold War rivalry with the Soviet Union, a country the Americans were determined should not gain access to Congo's uranium riches used to make nuclear bombs.

His best speech was this wonderful piece which is a strong message to Africa and Africans goes  thus:
"Our  goal is to revive Africa's cultural, philosophical, social and moral values and to preserve our resources. Dear comrades, I am happy to express the joy and pride of the people of the Congo at your presence here, at the presence here of the whole of Africa. The time of projects has passed. Today Africa must take action. This action is being impatiently awaited by the peoples of Africa. African unity and solidarity are no longer dreams. They must be expressed in decisions.
United by a single spirit, a single aspiration and a single heart, we shall turn Africa into a genuinely free and independent continent in the immediate future.

Long live African unity and solidarity!
Our dear Patrice, even though you may be gone in flesh but u continue to remain forever in our hearts as a
